This week’s highlights

[#dust] — A new study has determined that dust in the atmosphere is likely hiding some of the effects of climate change. The study concludes that temperatures could be up to 8% warmer if the dust weren’t there.

[#gasstoves] — If you’re tired of all the talks about gas stoves (which you may be if you’re reading this in the US - but if you need a quick refresher check this video out) then Heated presents a very good and important line of arguments as to why gas stoves actually matter even though their carbon footprint is crazy significant. And then again it does indeed matter since gas stoves comes with a leaky fossil fuel infrastructure. Emily draws an interesting line between people against plastic straws and gas stoves that follows a similar line of reasoning.

[#davos] — As described in the last issue I’ve permanently removed the policy section here, so any policy news worth discussing will be posted in the relevant categories already present or in the Other category as in this case. Here goes: Davos was last week. And climatewise I think UNs head Gutierrez said it best (quote this article):

“Just like the tobacco industry, they (fossil fuel industry which is represented big time at Davos, red.) rode roughshod over their own science. Big Oil peddled the big lie. And like the tobacco industry, those responsible must be held to account. Today, fossil fuel producers and their enablers are still racing to expand production, knowing full well that their business model is inconsistent with human survival. This insanity belongs in science fiction, yet we know the ecosystem meltdown is cold, hard scientific fact.”
