Dear readers
I’m sorry to say but have to extend the hibernation until end of year 😢.
I just want to assure everybody who paid that should I choose to stop writing altogether (which I don’t think) you will of course get a pro-rata refund of the money you paid already (i.e. only pay for the newsletters you actually received).
But until then I hope that you can give me a bit of patience while I “ride this one out”.
… but apart form a fossil fueled COP29 coming up what is probably on most climate fighters minds are the Trump election 🥴.
Here’s a couple of articles I read during the week that might help you make sense of that.
[#heated] — Following Trump's re-election, experts believe the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius is effectively unattainable, marking a significant setback in climate efforts. However, they emphasize that the fight for a livable climate continues, as every fraction of a degree matters. Concerns arise over potential rollbacks of climate policies, increased emissions, and the U.S. possibly withdrawing from international climate agreements. Despite these challenges, there remains hope for limiting warming to 2 degrees Celsius through local and global actions, highlighting the importance of continued advocacy and community organization.
[#carbonbrief] — A potential second term for Donald Trump could lead to a significant increase in US emissions, adding an estimated 4 billion tonnes by 2030 due to the rollback of climate policies established by the Biden administration. Trump's administration is expected to dismantle regulations on air pollution, methane emissions, and energy efficiency, while promoting fossil fuel production. In contrast, if Biden or another Democrat wins, new climate policies could be implemented to meet US climate goals, emphasizing the critical impact of the upcoming election on global climate efforts.
[#insideclimatenews] — Donald Trump's recent election victory threatens the climate progress achieved in the U.S. over the past four years, as he dismisses climate change and promotes fossil fuel production. Despite Vice President Kamala Harris's efforts to highlight climate achievements, economic concerns dominated the election, leading voters to favor Trump's promises of quick economic solutions. Environmental activists vow to continue fighting for climate policies at all levels of government, emphasizing the need for political power in the climate movement. Trump's agenda includes withdrawing from the Paris Agreement and rolling back environmental regulations, which could undermine the U.S.'s credibility in international climate negotiations.
… so yeah.. It’s not a good thing. But this makes it EVEN MORE important that each one of you who are working on a climate related project keep on fighting. As Heated says in their article: “… every fraction of a degree counts… “. We must not stop. We cannot stop.
I would actually seriously love to hear in my DMs/comments from any Trump voters (if there are any) among my subscribers and hear how they reconcile voting for him with working for the climate. Maybe there’s something I / the whole world have missed.
See you in 2025.
Best,
Michael
