‼️News you can’t miss
Here’s one important scary/bad (🙀), good (😻), interesting (😼) and fossil (💩) news item.
🙀 No longer possible to reach 1.5C says the UN’s new Emission Gap report
😻 Carbon emissions from energy generation likely to peak in 2025
😼 War in Ukraine likely to speed shift to clean energy
💩 Global health is at the mercy of our own fossil fuel addiction
This week’s highlights
[#meat] — You’ve probably heard about plant-based meat (yes meat based from plants) and cultivated meat (real meat grown in labs. The problem with the former is that it doesn’t taste like meat. The problem with the latter is that it’s expensive. A new kind is therefore on the rise, which is a hybrid of the two, where plant-based meat is mixed with just enough cultivated meat to make the hybrid product taste like meat.
[#petrolminister] — For some strange reason COP27 this year is held in a country that has a Petroleum minister 🥸 who said last week that fossil gas is the perfect solution and they’re planning on pushing this solution at COP27. *takes a deep breath* 📢 COUNTRIES THAT HAVE A FREAKING PETROLEUM MINISTER SHOULDN’T BE ALLOWED TO HOST COP27 THE POLITICAL GATHERING WHOSE SOLE AIM SHOULD BE TO KILL SAID INDUSTRY 📢 . Ok I’m done yelling, sorry for the caps. I’m not very impressed and TBH I’m not even sure I want to post more stuff about COP27 here.
[#cop27] — I mentioned earlier that I didn’t want to bring any more COP27 news, but maybe you’re interested in it so here’s a good sum up post of where we are prior to COP27. And here’s a discussion of agenda items that may or may not be a part of the COP27 meeting.
[#health] — The Lancet, which is the most prestigious scientific journal on health, released a new report where they state that our global health is at the mercy of our own fossil fuel addiction. The report gives an overview of all the different ways that fossil fuels are literally killing us. Here’s a few headliners of causes: Air pollution, diminishing food security, extreme heat, record floods and so on. You know them I’m sure.
That’s it for this week folks!
