Hi everyone!
I hope youโve missed your weekly climate news overview because itโs going to be back NEXT WEEK! Cue the confetti! ๐
After some deliberation and dealing with all kinds of situations here Iโve decided to continue the newsletter. Since this is a big thing for me I just wanted to give you a brief status as well as a small favor to ask (tl:dr; I need your tips on how to make this newsletter more attractive โ see at the very bottom).
Iโve had the paid option now for almost a year and I got 27 out 920 lovely people who think what I do with this is worth paying for. Itโs around the range that Substack tells writers they can expect but yeah somehow I hoped I was different ๐. (Interestingly Iโve seen a slight uptick in free subscriptions in the 3 months the newsletter has been offline ๐) .
As mentioned when I launched the paid option I really need this to be self-sustaining at some point, but I figured that it still provides me with the happiness of seeing on average more than 450 people opening my newsletter every week. So Iโm going to try and come up with a few ideas to expand it maybe and think about ways to get more people to join as paid.
Note that this means that paid plans of all my amazing paying readers will resume by the time youโre reading this. Thank you again for paying for the newsletter ๐โค๏ธ
And now I need your help
The newsletter is in a pretty stable format these days it hasnโt changed much since I introduced the paid option. So my big question to you is what would make you consider upgrading to a paid plan?
Hereโs a few ideas Iโve been running around in my head:
Should I bring back the podcast? (For new subscribers I used to deliver the newsletter as a podcast where I basically read the newsletter aloud, see this one for instance - I killed it after I saw almost no paid members were listening to it but before paywalling it more than 200 people regular listened to it).
Should I expand the podcast, maybe doing interviews with somebody about this weeks news? Was thinking that could be kind of a fun way to get some perspective one things that are not just my perspective.
Should we do the deep dives again? (Example)
If you have any other ideas I would love to learn about them.
My final question is whether you would ever consider upgrading to a paid plan? Some people really and truly believe everything on the Internet should be free so maybe youโre one of those.
It would be amazing if you could help me comment on this or simply send me an e-mail with your comments on michael@weeklyclimate.com.
Go paid now and save
Finally, of course, Iโm going to plug the paid version. So if youโre wondering what the paid side of this newsletter looks like nowโs your chance. If you upgrade today youโll get 25% off forever, i.e. youโre going to pay me less than 1$ pr newsletter.
To everybody thank you so much for sticking with me and to all new subscribers Iโve gained over the past 3 months I hope youโre going to like the newsletter!
Best regards,
Michael ๐
