👩‍⚕️ Status: Climate & Science

Let's look at how we're doing this week!

#climate-science — A major study revealed that exceeding 1.5°C of global warming poses a 37% risk of Amazon forest dieback by 2100, rising to 55% by 2300. This research underscores the critical importance of limiting temperature rise to prevent irreversible ecosystem collapse in one of the world's most important carbon sinks and biodiversity hotspots.

📰 The 7 Grand Challenges

⚡️Decarbonize Electricity

Clean electricity is the one do-or-die challenge we must solve.

#geothermal — Kamojang, Indonesia, pioneers geothermal coffee production, utilizing geothermal steam for drying, resulting in higher quality and efficiency. Local entrepreneur Muhammad Ramdhan Reza Nurfadilah collaborates with PGEO to empower farmers and aims to expand this innovation globally, with initial exports to Japan and plans for Europe.

#mining — Switching to electric vehicles can reduce carbon emissions, but mining for critical materials poses significant risks to forests and communities. Using less mineral-reliant battery technologies and implementing policies to reduce metal demand can mitigate these impacts and protect ecosystems.

#electric-vehicles — The IEA's Global EV Outlook 2025 reveals the US is lagging in electric vehicle adoption, with only 10% of new car sales being electric, while China dominates the market. Legislative actions threaten EV incentives, risking the US's competitiveness in the global automotive industry.

🏘 Reduce impact of urban and rural areas

Lowering the impact of urban and rural areas.
